Fairlanes have always been a crowd favorite. Well built pedigreed cars have always been the most appreciated. This ’66 GT has undergone a complete restoration with high end components that allow this GT to run with the big dogs on the street or the track.
The body was in good condition when the restoration started. The car was completely stripped to start with and brought back right. The panels were each massaged, blocked, primed & sanded to a glassy smoothness. Panel alignment is also excellent. The paint is a high quality base/clear with a nice color sand & buff. The restored factory chrome, trim & bright-work really stand out.
Fairlane interiors were some of the classiest of the era. This one looks incredible decked out in black with plenty of chrome trim throughout. Optioned with factory bucket seats and a floor console this is as good as you could get. The seats were restored, new carpet installed, new headliner, etc. Top to bottom a very nice interior.
Under the hood now lives a 390 that has been poked, stroked & stretched out to displace 445 Cubic Inches with the help of a Scat stroker kit. The cylinder heads were sourced from Keith Kraft and are Stage II CNC Ported Edelbrock Performer RPM Aluminum Heads. They are topped with T&D Rocker Arms. The camshaft is from Bullet Racing Cams and is a mechanical unit with .610/.622 lift on a 110 separation. The engine made 527 Horsepower on the engine dyno & 456 Horsepower on the chassis dyno. It was built by C&D Engine Performance, a high end performance custom engine builder.
The 4-speed was rebuilt to stock specs and the factory shifter was replaced with a Hurst Competition Plus unit.
The 9” differential was upgraded with a 3.70 ratio and a high end Tru Trac carrier.
The 4-Wheel Power Disc Brakes are from Wilwood. They use the factory style booster with a custom Wilwood Master Cylinder. 4-Piston Calipers are at each corner. With the power this car has you truly need this much braking.
The front suspension has been upgraded with a shock tower eliminator kit, rack & pinion & tubular control arms. This is an engineered system that works very well.
Steering is tight & responsive as you would expect from a rack & pinion. Handling is excellent thanks to the improved geometry.
The rear suspension has been upgraded with Calvert springs and adjustable Calvert shocks. To keep these located a set of Caltrac traction bars were installed. This car is able to keep the horsepower planted with the improved components and the 275 60 15 ET Street Radial Pro Tires. Sadly the car has not made it to the track yet so no ET’s have been made. Maybe you could be the first?
