There is simply so much to say about this Bronco that it is hard to find where to start!
This Bronco build was done in central California with a nice solid body. Wild Horses supplied many of the components for the build. Many thousands went
into this Bronco to make it one of the most competent on and off road examples around. Most Broncos will sacrifice in one area or another to be a street driver or a trail killer. This Bronco drives excellent down the highway yet can take you
places gorgeous black paint was never meant to be.
The body was just painted in Raven Black Base/Clear and it looks great. The grill was shot in gloss silver and provides the perfect ‘Pop’ to set the look off. The
bumpers were painted in the same Raven Black and look very nice. The soft top is a high quality unit that fits well and is easily removable.
The interior was completely reinvented in this Bronco. The dash has been replaced with a very cool and functional center digital gauge pod. Many rocker
switches control everything from fuel tanks to lights and wipers. There is a power supply with 3 outlets for cell phones, navigation or whatever electrical you might need. The factory seats have been replaced with comfortable leather wrapped bucket seats while the rear seat folds flat and tumbles forward to provide full use of the cargo area. A nice locking console provides security for belongings and a safe lockable stereo location. Seat belts are high end racing belts for safety.
The roll cage is a full family unit providing protection for all passengers. The tub was professionally sprayed at Line-X for a durable finish that you can easily hose out when needed.
The fuel injected 5.0 engine runs excellent. It has a nice deep throaty note to the exhaust and provides plenty of power. The C4 automatic transmission goes into gear and shifts very nicely. The C4 is mated to not one, but 2 transfer cases. The double case set-up can be used just like the factory DANA 20 but gives you the option of DOUBLING the crawling ratio. The standard low range of a DANA 20 is not very low and can be way too fast for true off road crawling. The whole set-up is very easy and straight forward to use thanks to the ‘Triple Stick’ control with easy to follow directions right on the sticks.
The front & rear differentials have been seriously upgraded. The front axle was upgraded to a DANA 44 High Pinion unit. This has heavy duty axles & hubs for
durability. The ‘High Pinion’ moves the driveline up about 4” higher to keep it out of the way from sharp driveshaft killing rocks. The rear axle is from Currie and uses a High Pinion as well. This is a custom case unit (read expensive) that is installed in a heavy duty housing with heavy duty axles. Both units have ARB air locking differentials. The ARBs allow normal use on the highway and when off road traction is needed simply select which axle you would like to lock with the flip of a switch for TRUE 4-Wheel Drive. These are the ultimate in a true dual use vehicle.
The driveshafts have been rebuilt with heavy duty components and properly balanced. Nice driveshafts with quality balancing will make a HUGE difference in
the ‘smooth’ feel on the road.
The suspension has been seriously upgraded with a 3.5” suspension lift kit. This included Bronco Bob’s Long Arm radius arms in the front. These ‘Long Arms’ give substantially more articulation for off road use while correcting the front steering geometry that makes most Broncos unsafe on the highway. To make the most of the extra articulation and driving improvements, Bilstien shocks with reservoirs have been added. There is a port to adjust the air pressure for ride quality adjustment. The rear suspension has Deaver 11 Spring Leaf Packs. These rear leafs provide plenty of articulation and have a very nice, comfortable ride. The rear shocks have been moved inboard of the frame for better articulation. To keep the rear axle from wrapping up with the soft springs a Torque-Fork was installed to positively locate the axle and prevent wheel hop. This Bronco uses so many off road pieces you would expect it to be at home only on the trail. However, it drives excellent with easy and comfortable road manners.
This Bronco is of course equipped with Power Steering. The system consists of a heavy duty steering box that is attached to a fully braced frame. The old cast iron linkage was replaced with heavy duty DOM tubing and Heim Joints. The steering
has just the right amount of assist without the common deflection of factory steering. The result is a drama free on road experience from bullet proof off road parts.
Of course with all these parts, inferior braking would be unthinkable! So, this Bronco is equipped with 4-Wheel Power Disc Brakes. The rear system was supplied with the Currie rear end and is sourced from Ford’s Explorer for ease of parts supplies and reliable use. The front brakes are standard DANA 44 equipped disc parts with an excellent track record as well as parts availability.
The factory fuel tanks have been replaced with heavy duty steel high capacity fuel tanks. The front tank now holds 12 gallons and the rear holds 23 gallons. Fuel is transferred between them via a separate pump giving 35 gallons of fuel capacity.
The bumpers are very high quality units that fit excellent and look great. The front bumper is from Wild Horses and is a ‘Rock Blocker’. It has a nice Warn 9.5ti winch with 9500 pounds of capacity, over double the weight of this Bronco. The rear
bumper has nice swing outs for the spare tire holder and the cooler rack. It also has a receiver if you should ever want to haul a trailer.
The wheels & tires are brand new units that look amazing. The wheels have a very cool Deep Dish design with machined edges on a gloss-black powder coated wheel. The fit excellent. The tires we like to use on our Broncos are the Toyo AT II’s. These tires are by far the best we have used for overall excellent driving tires that are quiet on the road while providing excellent off road traction.
So, to sum it up, this Bronco combines excellent on-road manners with off-road capabilities that exceed many trail only Broncos.
