Back in 1968 if you bled Ford Blue & wanted a Full Size Muscle Car, then you went with the Galaxie XL, checked the 345 Horsepower & 462 lb/ft of Torque Q-Code 428 Engine Option AND the 4-Speed Manual Transmission. With the XL package you also got Bucket Seats and a cool floor console. This gave you plenty of low end grunt around town and enough horsepower to surprise & embarrass most unsuspecting intermediate Muscle Cars.
This Galaxie was ordered and sold new in Calexico, California back on May, 14 of 1968. Since that time it has remained mostly stock with the exception of what appears to be a single repaint done quite some time ago. Overall the body is quite solid as you would expect from what appears to be an 84k mile Southern California Convertible. We do not have any documentation on the factory mileage but the condition of the car and completeness would strongly support the odometer. The only rust we can see is a small spot in the front of each rear wheel. The normal spots prone to rust all look solid. The previous owner purchased the car from the original owner’s son and shipped the car to Washington in 2011.
The interior is in overall good condition with the rare original bucket seats and floor console. The upholstery does show some wear but is still quite presentable. The tops of the rear seats and the dash pad have some cracks from that ‘Hot California Sun’. A new dash cover has been installed and looks much better. The carpet shows wear but could be used as is.
Under the hood the 428 really purrs. It is complete right down to the original ‘Thermactor Emission System’. The original carburetor needs a rebuild but is included with the car. These are very hard to find parts if you were to try and restore this car. The 4 Speed Transmission works excellent with nice gear engagement both up-shifting and down-shifting. Clutch engagement is nice & even.
Original exhaust still sounds excellent with it's factory C8A part numbered mufflers.
This is an extremely rare car and really hard to put a number value on. We have only found 2 examples for sale and they are restored units available for $60k. This one is mechanically & structurally sound, still quite presentable and available at an affordable price. This is one of the few cars that have the value in it to afford some serious restoration effort without losing on your investment.
