When any Muscle Car conversation comes up, one of the top dogs is always the 428 Cobra Jet Mustangs. They set drag racing records in their class on their first trip out to the track in April of 1968. They then upgraded the GT500 Shelby to the first ‘KR’ or King of the Road. In 1969 the Mach 1 was born and this was the Big Dog. With a highly under-rated 335 Horsepower they were immediately re-factored by NHRA to 360, true horsepower figures with the Ram Air induction
typically range in the 400 neighborhood.
The body on this ’69 looks very nice. The paint is older, but it was mostly used for show purposes with some limited street driving mixed in. There are some small imperfections visible on close inspection but overall it is quite nice. The rear window louvers and spoiler help set the body style off. This car gets compliments where ever it goes. It recently placed 4th in its class at the ‘Mustang Round-up’ in
Bellevue, WA, the largest Mustang show in the world.
Inside the interior looks great. Optioned with the factory tachometer and floor console the driver’s seat has the feel of a cockpit. The factory door panels & dash pad are in good condition. The carpet has been replaced as well as the seat
upholstery and only have limited used since installed. The fold down seat is in good condition and thanks to the rear window louvers the carpet is not faded.
Under the hood the engine looks very nice decked out in the correct Ford Blue with the original finned aluminum valve covers. The factory CJ intake was replaced with a factory Aluminum ‘Police Interceptor’ intake manifold which is
about a 50lb weight savings. The C8OE-N Cobra Jet cylinder heads are topped with factory Ford adjustable rocker arms. The engine does have a larger camshaft, though we did not get the specs with the car.
The engine sounds incredible with a nice lope to the idle and plenty of low end torque. The C6 automatic has been equipped with a 2500 stall converter.
The electrical system works properly with properly functioning wipers, lights, turn signals, heater, dash lights, etc. This Mach is ready for sunny day cruising or even weekend show 'n shines. It is a proven trophy winner and a very fun investment.
