This ’74 Bronco is really ready for just about anything. It looks classy in the Champagne paint but has a very aggressive & imposing look. With the 37” Nitto Mud Grappler tires, bright blue James Duff Radius Arms, big aluminum remote reservoir shocks clearly visible in the ‘spacious’ wheel wells there is no mistaking what this Bronco is capable of.
This body on this Bronco is a nice, solid example. The paint was a nice quality job with nice coverage and a great shine. The color is even better in person and has a metallic that really ‘pops’ in the sun. The black grill is accented nicely by the powder-coated front & rear bumpers. Tasteful custom side step/nerf bars are both protective and give you a handy step to get in & out of this Bronco.
Inside the interior has been fully customized. A well-appointed Autometer gauge package has been added to a custom diamond plate dash. The floors have been fully lined front to back with bedliner for excellent protection from corrosion and super easy clean out. Tom’s Bronco front Sport Seats with a folding back seat are very comfortable and modern. The family cage is a nice touch that adds safety and good looks. A Kenwood deck has been added and works through a waterproof amp and a pair of Infinity boat loudspeakers that are mounted up high on the roll bar. The speakers even have a PA system and a CB style handheld microphone.
Under the hood lives a 351 Windsor that has been upgraded nicely and sounds great with just a bit of a lope at idle and a crisp note to the idle. Performance upgrades include:
Edelbrock Performer RPM Intake Manifold, Holley 670cfm Avenger Carburetor, MSD Digital 6 Plus Ignition, L&L Long Tube Headers and Performance Exhaust. It powers this Bronco around effortlessly even with 37” tires and a modest 4.56 gear ratio. The C4 automatic shifts nicely and goes into gear quickly. It has been upgraded with a heavy duty cooler for extra insurance when off road.
Cooling can really be an issue on Broncos. This Bronco came from the desert Southwest so it has been properly upgraded. A huge radiator from Griffin Enterprises, Howe Aluminum Shroud, Flow Kooler Water Pump, Perma-Cool Oil Coolers and a Vented Engine Compartment keep this Bronco from heating on the hottest of days. This Bronco should have no problem accepting the additional heating requirements of an A/C system. Even the fuel systems can overheat and cause ‘Vapor-Lock’. This Bronco uses a high capacity 23 gallon ‘Sherman Tank’ fuel tank with an internal pump & heavy duty skid plate and a return style fuel system to help prevent vapor lock.
When you step up to a 37” tire, you really need to step up your brakes. This Bronco accomplishes this with disc brakes at each corner for a confident stop each time.
Power steering is a Must-Have in a Bronco of this caliber with the 37” tires. Even the stock systems can get overmatched, overheat and fail. The whole system was upgraded with a PSC Ram Assist, heavy duty pump, remote reservoir system and a quick ratio steering box. This heavy duty pump system required a serpentine pulley system for reliable belt traction so the whole drive system was converted and uses a factory Ford system.
Heavy-Duty Steering Linkage from BC Broncos gives you the confidence that you have one of the best, safest and toughest overall systems available.
The front axle is a Dana 44 that has been upgraded with Chrome Moly axles, Spicer U-Joints and a cable actuated Ox Locker. The rear axle is a 9” Big Bearing that has been fitted with a Detroit Locker. Each axle was fitted with 4.56 ratio gearing from Genuine Gear. A 1-Ton rear drive shaft was used for strength & durability.
The James Duff ‘Monster’ Suspension system is one of the most extreme systems commercially available. It replaces basically the whole factory suspension system. The front end receives longer radius arms that provide dramatically more suspension travel and better alignment specs. The 4-front remote reservoir shocks are now mounted to a special shock hoop for more travel. The rear system consists of a 4-link system with coil springs and both inboard and outboard 70/30 James Duff shocks. To keep up with all this articulation you need tires that can get the power to the dirt/rock/mud/car that you are looking to drive over. Nitto Mud Grapplers have an aggressive treat design and a reputation for being a high caliber off road tire. The systems really work well together providing a level of off-road capabilities never thought of when the Bronco was originally designed.
This Bronco of course does not look, run or drive like a stock Bronco. In the you can easily cruise at highway speeds thanks to high end components that give you stable steering and excellent alignment specs. Steering & braking are both common Bronco short-comings that have also been addressed.
