Looking for a Bronco you can drive? Just can't justify or stomach daily driving a $60k classic but want the look & experience without the $1200/month payment? This one runs and drives excellent and has the classic survivor look. It is one of the best preserved Broncos we have seen. Sure there are the scratches & dings but keep in mind this paint is 42 years old. It has been in the same family since new passing between 3 brothers so history on it is good but undocumented. The real evidence though is in the condition of the body as far as damage and original part content.
The paint is quite impressive for a 42 year old SUV. The panels are clean and very solid. The paint still has a nice shine but there are scratches & dings. The body side moldings are all there & shiny with some of the pinstripe paint faded. Think of this like your favorite jeans, there is some wear but it just fit right.
The floors were over all pretty good with the only minor rust on the front floor pans. We did section a small part on the driver's floor but the repairs were done with reproduction metal that was butt-welded, ground and repainted in orange to match the floor. The rockers, door posts, etc all look good. See pics.
Inside has been transformed to just a bit more modern look. Premium seating from Tom's Bronco Parts along with new door panels, carpet kit and headliner have been added. These seats fit incredibly well and have longer seat tracks to accommodate the tallest of drivers. They also recline and have adjustable headrests. The rear seat is a 'fold-n-tumble' unit with adjustable headrests that are a must have if you have children as factory seats offer no protection for their necks in case of accident.
Under the hood the 302 appears to be the stock original unit. From the Bronco specific air cleaner to the 4x4 oil pan it appears very original. It runs excellent, as it should with only 76k miles on the clock. We did pull the valve covers for inspection and the engine was clean but the valve stem seals were suspect so we replaced them, otherwise we believe the engine to be completely stock. Even the exhaust system appears to be original with the heat shields still on both the catalytic converter and muffler.
The C4 automatic transmission still works nicely and is a highly prized option.
The factory power front disc brakes and power steering are a very desirable factory options. These still work well and make this a very drive-able Bronco for drivers of nearly every experience level.
This Bronco was optioned with a front sway bar that really makes a big difference. Handling is very surprising with the combination of stiffer suspension and 21st century tire technology.
This Bronco came to us with some 'day 2' 5 slot mags that were 10" wide so they did grab the fender. We replaced them with new units from US Mag in a 15x8" for a perfect fit. We fitted the wheels, including the spare, in 31x10.50 BF Goodrich Radial T/A's for that vintage look. These tires work excellent on Broncos too.
