No matter how long it has been since Steve McQueen duked it out on the streets of San Francisco, the Iconic ’68 Fastback remains one of the most recognized Muscle Cars on the planet.

When it comes to requests, no other car tops a ’68 Mustang Fastback in Highland Green with a 390 Stuffed between the shock towers. No matter if you are here in the Pacific Northwest or in the heart of Europe, collectors, enthusiasts & dealers alike can’t get enough of them.

We were lucky to find this one in the final stages of restoration. The paint job is amazing on this car. The finish is glassy smooth with a deep luster. The panel alignment and gap are among the nicest we have seen, take a good look at the pictures, this car is amazing. A tremendous amount of work went into this car including quite a bit of professional panel replacement with quality reproductions.

 

If you want a straight, rust free car, you will be hard pressed to find a better one.

Inside the car the interior upholstery & trim are completely new. This is a factory Décor Interior car that has been redone top to bottom and front to back. The seats were upgraded to black comfort weave, complete with the factory ornaments.

 

The upper and lower consoles were disassembled and restored nicely with working map lights in the Rare Upper Console. A high quality reproduction carpet kit was installed and the fold down rear seat was treated to a new carpet set as well. The door panels are new units as well as the arm rests, door pulls and finned aluminum lower door trims. The dash wears a brand new dash pad, instrument bezel, 3-piece woodgrain dash trim, knee pad and trim. Up above the headliner is a new professionally installed unit done with a new windshield and new front & rear window seals.

Under the hood the 390 is an excellent running example that has been tastefully upgraded with a Holley Street Dominator Aluminum Intake Manifold, Brand New Holley 750cfm Carburetor, Performance Camshaft, Long Tube Headers and Flow Master 2 ½” Mandrel Bent Exhaust. It has a nice lope to the idle and sounds perfect with the long tubes and the Flow Masters. This was a new rebuild on the engine, unfortunately we did not get any information or receipts on the build. The C6 Automatic appears to have been a new rebuild as well. It goes into gear quickly and shifts well.

The suspension on the car has been completely replaced with new reproduction suspension components both front & rear. A larger front sway bar has been installed and the front upper control arms received the ‘Shelby Drop’. Combine that with the larger 17” wheels in front and you have some handling capabilities not normally found in a big block Mustang.

Obviously the wheel & tire package are a HUGE upgrade from the tiny Torque Thrust D’s Steve McQueen ran back on his ’68. This kit is a custom unit consisting of 17x7 front with 225 45 tires in front & 18x9.5 rears with 275 40’s in the rear.
