'67 Cougars made a HUGE splash when they were introduced. They claimed Motor Trends 'Car of the Year' edging out the Camaro. The combination of the Mustang's drivetrain and the Mercury luxury made them stand out. Even the base model Cougars carried trim items above the Mustang. Interior trim options with padded dash faces and upgraded courtesy lighting just looked a bit more upscale. A slightly longer wheel base and longer leaf springs with special insulators made the Cougar ride noticeably nicer too.

This Cougar was ordered in Cardinal Red, the same color it was received a high quality repaint in. The panels are quite straight and the paint has been wet-sanded and polished to a mirror finish. This is an older repaint but it presents very well. The chrome & bright trim are in nice shape too. Consider this one a sunny day driver that would easily represent at a weekend show/cruise.

Inside the interior has seen its share of care and it shows. From the seat upholstery to the headliner everything in here is in great condition. Even the carpet shows nicely. The dash pad, which is a weak spot for Cougars, is in great condition. This car was maintained at a reputable Cougar restoration shop and it shows. Fit & finish is quite nice for the breed.

Under the hood, the 289 has been nicely detailed. The factory 289 4 barrel intake is still there topped off by a Holley carburetor. The factory exhaust manifolds wear a nice coat of cast iron and look new. The valve covers have been upgraded to reproductions of the original dealer optioned finned aluminums. A Pertronix Ignitor ignition system has been added for reliability & performance. Firing up the engine it sounds amazing. The Holley choke works properly so cold starts are a breeze.

Being a garaged car, we will call this one a House Cat, has left this Cougar quite solid. The floors, torque boxes, frame rails and undercarriage look amazing. The only signs of corrosion are a couple small bubbles at the drivers front door corner and just in front of the wheel house on the driver's side. These are small and you have to go looking but they are there. The trunk floors are in excellent shape too.

Since Cougars had a bit more on the luxury side they have a bit more complex systems like sequential tail lights and vacuum operated headlights for example. These two items are the breeds Achilles Heal, thankfully both work nicely which is a testament to the care and condition of this car.
