There is so much to talk about on this one it's hard to find a place to start!
This build started with a nice original '69 S-code Mach 1 with pictures documenting the car as original and the original pics from when it was purchased for the build in 2005.
The body and paint work on this car are amazing. The panels are amazingly straight and the BASF Glasurit paint shines incredibly. This was a full rotisserie build, pics included. Take a look at the detailed pics, this one is a top-shelf car. The bumpers have been fitted and the exposed carriage bolts eliminated. The side scoops have been molded in but the body lines preserved. A lot of design and expert grade work went into this one.
Inside the interior carries the cues that made the Mach 1's so popular back in the 60's as well as brushed aluminum panels as the '67 Decor Interiors were trimmed with. It's a nice tasteful touch. Scat front seats with matching leather clad rear upholstery are super comfortable and look quite high end. The JME gauges are much more accurate than the originals and look great too. An original tilt steering column is in place and to it is fitted a removable steering wheel setup to make this car a bit harder to steel.
The stereo system has been nicely integrated into the car without being intrusive. The head unit is a JVC unit with an Alpine 5-channel 100x4 and 500x1 amplifier powering 2 JL Audio 8" subwoofers, Polk Audio 5 1/4" component Speakers, 2 Polk Audio 6x9's and 2 Polk tweeters. The system is set up for Sirius as well.
Under the hood lives a 445 Cubic Inch Keith Craft FE. The engine sounds amazing with a mechanical cacophony of sounds. The KCR engines are built for rpm so when cold the forged pistons talk to you. The Comp Cam has a ton of lift and super fast ramp rates so the valvetrain action is quite audible. Once the engine warms the idle has a nice lope, but not too aggressive, and the forged pistons settle down. The high end ceramic coated long tube headers let you almost pick out individual cylinders firing while the 2.5" exhaust has a deep muscle car note. The entire system was Jet Hot coated and keeps the under-car heat to a minimum. Take a look at the hand-built exhaust tips made specifically for this car.
The KCR engines come equipped with Scat steel cranks, H-beam rods, JE pistons, Comp hydraulic roller camshaft, BHJ damper, Canton T-oil pan, Erson shaft rockers, ARP fasteners, Edelbrock stage II cylinder heads, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold, Edelbrock water pump, MSD distributor, MSD 6AL box & coil, Holley 750 carb and more. These engines dyno out in excess of 500 horsepower and this one definitely feels like it can easily lay that number down.
Keeping the beast cool is a MASSIVE 33" Be Cool radiator fitted with dual 13.6" Spal electric fans. This engine makes a ton of heat with the sheer size and aluminum cylinder heads while the added air conditioning system adds even more.
The transmission is a Toploader 4-Speed with a hydraulic clutch from Autoworksracing.com. The clutch is mounted to an aluminum flywheel for a nice light weight mass and a quick rev.
Out back a 9" was fitted with a Eaton Truetrac carrier and 3.50 ratio Motive Gear. The housing was narrowed 3 inches and the housings were massaged during construction allowing the massive 305's to fit nicely.
Tons of work was performed on this purpose built car. With a full compliment of RRS suspension components front to rear this Mach 1 has the hardware to hang with many late model supercars. The chassis was stiffened with subframe connectors that travel through the passenger floor pan and seat risers to connect the front & rear frame rails and eliminate the common chassis flex that plagues these cars.
The fuel system has been completely replaced with new components including a Fuel Safe fuel cell.
A complete Be Cool air conditioning kit was installed. This system utilizes a new heater box and works with factory style controls. The system was just charged.
The wheels are from American Racing and measure 18x8 with 255 35 Nitto G2's in the front and 18x10 in the rear with 305 35 Nitto 888R's.
